The audio quality is typical of a clock radio - don't expect high fidelity when playing CDs, but the sound is clear. The overall dimensions & profile are actually smaller than I expected. After a very lengthy evaluation of all the reviews for the CD clock radios on the market, I decided on this one. I concur with those who felt the two lumination settings are too bright for sleeping, but I found that with the lumination turned off, there's enough backlight to the display that I can still read the time. All-in-all, I feel I've gotten the expected value for the money. Have had it for three days and, knowing its limitations before buying, I'm satisfied with the performance. The radio reception isn't great (but it's no worse than my old Panasonic clock radio that finally died).
Just don't expect that you're ever going to use this to listen to CDs. The huge drawback to this machine is that the sound is terrible -- tinny and one-dimensional, although clear. Listening to the radio is fine, though. As a clock radio, this is a well-built and designed unit. Since I would like to do that in my bedroom sometimes, I put this in my toddler's room and ordered the Onkyo CBX-300. My only complaint there is that you can't vary the snooze time below 10 minutes, like you can with most other clock radios. The alarm function is versatile and easy to use. As a clock radio, I would give it 4 stars.
Is a good product. I bought this item for my big brother as a gift, and he love it.
My husband has an alarm clock that's very similar to this one, but his doesn't have a CD repeat option. I do like a pitch black room, though, it's hard for me to sleep with any light. It then progresses to the beeps getting faster, but I've slammed on the snooze by then.
The CD automatically stops playing when my alarm goes off.It looks cool - it made my husband envious for my alarm clock. The problem is solved by throwing a dark colored pillowcase over the alarm clock, and that blocks the light from the display. It has a smaller footprint than his clock, too, so I've got more room for a lamp and other stuff on my bedside table.Only downside is that the display seems really bright to me, even on its dimmest setting.
I purchased this clock radio for the following reasons: Gentle Wake feature - It starts with a single beep, and this is enough to wake me up. With this Sony alarm clock, the rain continues all night long. Can't see the time if I wake up without lifting a corner of the pillowcase, but I'm fine with that, I'm never too curious about what time it is in the night.I've had this alarm clock for over 6 months, and I'm very happy with it.
Snooze button is easy to find when you're half-dead, by the way.CD repeat function - A big thing for me. We listen to a rain CD to fall asleep to, and I always hated that if I woke in the middle of the night, I'd have to reach over to start the CD again, because a silent bedroom drives me nuts.
And here is a great thing about this clock radio: If the electricity goes out for long periods, it remembers all the settings forever. Functional. The sound is. well, sound. It's a fine clock radio.
It also has a little plug coming out of it's little bottom that you can plug into your mp3 player. It does have two alarms, though, which is a great feature. And I also want a remote control, which this unit doesn't have. Very disappointed. There's an oldies station I really want, and this unit just won't get it.
Well, first, this one is really clunky. Not that I'm dissatisfied with this one, mind you (well, I am a little), I just want one with more bells and whistles. Nothing special. don't ask) a Sangean WR-2 in part because when I plugged my Walkman through its aux-in plug, the sound was much too low even at the Sangean's (and Walkman's) highest volume. I use one for weekdays and one for weekends. I've had this clock radio now for about four months or so.
I have a Sony Walkman, and I must admit that I find this feature very nice. Like five inches, or so.So why am I after another clock radio. And no whistles. I recently bought (and returned. The memory buttons are easy to get at, as are all the main controls. I'm looking for another one, though.
Also, both AM and FM pick-up is quite weak. It has three dimming settings, although even the lowest one is quite bright. The sound is just fine, and very little distortion. That is not the case with this little Sony clock radio. Really clunky. Maybe it doesn't like music from the Sixties.
Stations that came through perfectly with the Sangean would hardly register on the Sony. And I'd like RDS, which this unit doesn't have.But if you want a relatively simple CD clock radio that does the simple things well (except pick up the stations you really want), this is a fine unit. During the one day I had the Sangean I realized just how problematic the signal pick-up on this Sony model is. This one has no bells. You'll need a female-to-male extension cord, because the little cord the radio has to the mp3 is very short. The CD works just fine.
And switching from one to the other is incredibly easy and user-friendly. You don't need to reset it.
